Week 6 Review

The State Exchange was delayed temporarily this week as a counter-offer exchange was put forward by the "Gang of 16"-freshman representatives, who wanted to throw their weight into the mix of the exchange debate. Be sure to capitalize on this delay and contact your legislators to voice your concerns about Idaho establishing a state exchange. Health Care Ministries are faith-based charitable organizations in which Christians pool resources together to pay for their emergency health expenses by way of agreement. It is an option to replace insurance but they are not insurance companies. Many Idahoans share in this ministry. I am sponsoring a bill to prevent court costs to health ministries when they are attacked for not filing as insurance companies. This bill will be presented to the Commerce Committee on Tuesday the 19th. The immunization bill will be up for a vote next Tuesday afternoon, even after a failed attempt to counter it with a different bill. Additionally, the nomination of Joan Hurlock to the Fish and Game was rejected by the Senate this week This is the first time in Idaho history where a republican controlled legislature rejected the appointee of a republican governor. While very educated, the nominee was rejected due to lack of necessary experience for the position. The Judiciary Committee visited the private prison here in Boise. We visited inmates who were in the therapy treatment section and the vo-tech section, and, even though we still have room for improvement in our prison system, much has been done to help rehabilitate prisoners to make them functional members of society. The JFAC committee voted to set the state budget at $2.783 Billion, which is a major step in the right direction of getting closer to finishing the budgeting making process.
